Undergraduate Program Quality Assurance Policy of the ECEDU Dept., University of Ioannina

The organization and operation of the Department of Early Childhood Education of the University of Ioannina is governed by the P.D. 320/83 and Law 1268/82 for the School of Education. The School of Education, in the context of article 1 par. 2 of Law 1268/82, has as its mission: a) To cultivate and promote Education Sciences with the academic and the applied teaching and research. b) To provide their graduates with the necessary equipment that will ensure their perfect training for their scientific and professional career. c) To contribute to the rise of the level and to the coverage of the increasing needs of Education in matters concerning Pedagogy. d) To contribute to the confrontation and solution of pedagogical problems in general (article 2 of PD 320/83). To achieve these goals, the Department of Pre-School Education offers a modern Undergraduate Program, which has been designed in accordance with the Quality Assurance Policy of the Department and the University of Ioannina.

The Quality Assurance Policy of the Department of Early Childhood Education is in line with the Quality Assurance Policy of MODIP of the University of Ioannina, the international academic principles and especially those of the European Higher Education Area.

In order to improve and ensure the quality of teaching and educational work, the faculty and research staff of the Department of Early Childhood Education of the University of Ioannina: organizes and implements innovative teaching methods and teaching approaches, connects teaching with research, seeks the development of creativity, critical thinking and argumentation of students, provides a high level of knowledge and achieves the development of skills and participates in joint actions with other social actors. It also utilizes doctoral and postdoctoral candidates in the educational process with financial support. It also encourages students to participate in the evaluation of the work provided by the faculty. OMEA studies the data and the Curriculum Committee proposes to the Assembly all those elements that contribute to the improvement of the functionality and the content of the courses.

Regarding the quality of the research activity, the Department of Early Childhood Education seeks to increase the number of publications and participation in scientific conferences and research programs with international impact and promotes the Sciences of Education through research, utilizing the laboratories of the Department. It extends its cooperation with other departments of the University of Ioannina as well as other Universities.

In order to improve the quality of the administrative work and the management of human resources, the Department of Early Childhood Education of the University of Ioannina reduces the bureaucracy by utilizing electronic services as well as the waste of human resources in time-consuming administrative operations. It promotes staff training and education, utilizes ICTs, adopts practices and procedures for transparency in the management of financial resources, and plans actions with timeline planning.

In the fields of promotion, extroversion and internationalization, the Department of Early Childhood Education of the University of Ioannina aims: to develop stable relations with local and regional bodies, to participate in the cultural development of the city, the region and the society at large, in the international development of cooperation to strengthen the mobility of faculty members, EEP, EDIP, ETEP and students and the development of research collaborations at an international level.

In order to improve and ensure the quality of the educational project, the Department of Early Childhood Education aims to increase the participation of students: in class attendance, in examinations throughout the year, in committees and in academic bodies and in completing the evaluation questionnaires of the semester courses / teachers. It also encourages and supports innovative student initiatives.

Emphasizing the integrity and independence of the research process, the Department of Early Childhood Education has a Research Ethics and Ethics Committee, which works with the Ethics and Ethics Research Committee of the University of Ioannina, emphasizing the ethics and deontology of research in children, educators and vulnerable social groups The Ethics and Ethics Committee of the Department’s Research advises all those involved in any research and scientific endeavor to comply with the rules of the Code of Ethics and Ethics of Research of the University of Ioannina.

To improve and ensure the protection of students and staff of the Department from biased interventions, the Department of Early Childhood Education adopts open and public data policies, provides the opportunity to be informed of decisions of collective bodies, publishes administrative acts and provides the opportunity for students to be re-examined by another faculty members after three consecutive failures in the examination of a course.

To improve and ensure quality in the processes related to the Undergraduate Program, each new design is done according to the objectives and the expected learning outcomes and the needs of the students and the society. Following are procedures for the approval of the new Undergraduate Program by the Department Assembly.

The Undergraduate Program is updated regularly with the aim of higher-level education of Early Childhood Educators. For the update of the Undergraduate Program, the results of the processing of the students’ questionnaires, the international trends, goals, benchmarks and the good practices of similar Departments of the country are taken into account. . The learning outcomes of the Undergraduate Program are determined in accordance with the National and European Higher Education Qualifications Framework.

The quality assurance procedures, as recorded in the Quality Manual of the University of Ioannina, are applied to the department with the required adjustments. The departmental procedures are updated annually by the OMEA in collaboration with the MODIP of the University of Ioannina. These are reflected in the annual Internal Evaluation Report prepared by OMEA based on the instructions of MODIP.

The Quality Assurance Policy of the Department is communicated to all members of the university community and academia through the Department of Early Childhood Education website.

In the context of the Quality Assurance Policy, the Department of Early Childhood Education of the University of Ioannina for the academic year 2019-2020 has attached to the Undergraduate Program strategic objectives, with the individual quality objectives, planned for their achievement, together with the bodies responsible for their implementation, and the intended measurable results, as they result from the targeted indexes of the relevant list. In the “Measurement” column, the index contains in parentheses the official data of ADIP for the Academic Year 2017-2018.
